We have been working with The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein and The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, and discussing similarities and differences between them, as well as how these books tie in to our science unit on trees.  One of the similarities we have discussed is how in both books, the trees are used up until there is not much of them left.  In The Giving Tree, The Giving Tree is willing to give up all of her resources to help the boy.  In The Lorax, the trees are continuously cut down for their resources, and Once-ler pays no mind to the Lorax's warnings. Sometimes trees are mistreated in real life as well.  What kind of situations can you think of in which trees are misused and mistreated in the real world?
